Richmond Police were called to the EKU Bypass near Commercial Drive around 5:30 Friday evening for a crash. Police say a vehicle driven by 39-year-old Alfred Hairston crossed the median and hit the driver’s side door of a vehicle in the opposite lane waiting to turn. He then spun across lanes and collided with a guard rail before fleeing toward Big Hill Ave. Police say as Hairston approached Big Hill Avenue, he struck a stopped vehicle 3 times in the rear until his vehicle could get enough room to turn right onto Big Hill. Police found Hairston attempting to walk away at Saddlebrook Apartments. He was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, 3 counts of wanton endangerment, no license and registration and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a vehicle. In addition, Hairston was also served 10 outstanding bench warrants for contempt of court.
