Prescription Disposal Program 1 Year Anniversary

The Madison County prescription drug disposal program is celebrating its 1 year anniversary. Since the program started, more than 700 pounds of drugs have been dropped in collection boxes at Berea and Richmond police departments. The program is a joint effort between Madison County Health Department, Berea and Richmond Police.

“We have seen an increase in prescription drug-related arrests. Crimes of theft and burglary go hand in hand with prescription drug abuse. There is a problem here and we are doing what we can to address it,” said Berea Police Chief David Gregory.

Madison County’s prescription drugs disposal program is one of the first of its kind in central Kentucky and has served as models for other communities.
