The Breathitt County School district has lost more than $190,000 in state funding after an audit. That audit by State Auditor Adam Edelen showed the former superintendent took 10 instructional days out of the school calendar but paid teachers for that time. Edelen’s office also found the district spent more than $35,000 on hotel rooms and tickets to the boy’s state basketball tournament for the former superintendent and some board members. That money was taken from a fund that was intended for students. Breathitt County’s former superintendant, Arch Turner, pleaded guilty earlier this year in a federal vote-buying case.
