ALL City Offices in Richmond will be CLOSED Friday, September 3rd at noon and Monday,

Telford YMCA Upcoming Programs and Events

Hoppin Tots:  This is a preschool movement class for 3 to 5 year olds.  Parents and kids participate in
games and activities that teach locomotor movements (hopping, skipping, jumping, skipping, etc...) and
spacial awareness.  Class start date is September 7th.  Class meets Tues/Thurs 1030am to 11am for four
weeks. Cost is $24 members and $48 Non-members.

Shotokan Karate:  This class if for participants 6 and up. Class begins on September 7th.  Class meets
Tues/Thurs 6pm to 7pm for 12wks Cost is $45 members and $65 Non-members.

Creative Dance:  This is a fun basic dance class for ages 4 to 6.  Class begins on Sept 11th and meets
every saturday for four weeks from 830am to 915am.  Cost is $15 members $30 non-members.

RECESS  is basically  PE that is non structured.  They play sports and cooperative games/activities.  This
is free to members and for ages 7 to 12. Monday-Thursday 5pm to 7pm.  Parents can drop off kids while
they go work out.

Youth Basketball for ages 5 to 15.  Sign ups begin on Sept 7th at Telford YMCA and run through
November 3rd.  $70 members $75 non members.
“AFTER SCHOOL FITNESS PROGRAM ”

The Berea Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce “Monday’s with Maggy”, a new after
school fitness program designed for children in grades 1-5. The program will take place on Monday’s from
2:20-3:10pm at the Berea City Park and Berea Community School gymnasium. We invite you to join us for
this free, public program as we learn about and participate in games, sports and other physical activities.

Estill County Schools Parent and Family Volunteers

ALL parent and family volunteers must attend confidentiality training and have volunteer screening. This
includes booster parents and those wishing to participate in classroom and field trip opportunities. Please
contact your school Family Resource/Youth Service Center Director or Teresa Dawes at 723-2181 for a
scheduled time.
Veterans Benefits Meetings
A Veterans Benefits Field Representative will be at the National Guard Armory, 335 Cow Creek Rd.
Ravenna, on the 1st Thursday of each month. Veterans and their dependants will receive assistance filing
for federal and state veterans benefits. This is a free service provided by KY Department of Veterans
Affairs. To apply, veterans need to furnish copies of pertinent documentation to verify eligibility. For more

Movie on the Lawn at St. Joseph-Berea
Bring a blanket to St. Joseph's front lawn (305 Estill St.)and enjoy watching a family film on the big screen
all summer long. Lawn opens at 6:30, movies start at dusk. Next movie date is September 10th. Admission

Alzheimer’s Support Group

Arts Alive Concert Series
The Berea Parks and Recreation and the Berea Tourism Departments are excited to announce that the
2010 Arts Alive Concert Series will continue every Friday night in September at Memorial Park. The music
genre for this month is blues and jazz. The month will kick off September 3rd with Superfecta. September
10th you can catch the jazzy sounds of O-Zone. Be sure to catch the Conch Republic Band, a Jimmy Buffet
tribute band at the Spoonbread Balloon Glow at Berea Community School on September 17th. You will not
want to miss the deep blues of the Big Poppa Stamply Band on September 24th. Robbie Bartlett will
captivate the crowd with her sultry voice on October 1st at Berea College Square on October 1st.

All concerts begin at 7pm and are free. In the event of rain the concert will be moved to the Russel Acton

32nd Daniel Boone Pioneer Festival
Labor Day Weekend, September 3-5th in Winchester.
Street dancing, 5k run, local talent contest, arts and crafts, antique appraisals, with Easton Corbin and
Justin Moore preforming at Lykins Park on Sunday evening.

Bluegrass Heritage Museum Speaker

Berea Folk Dancers
Weekly Friday dancing starts on September 10th in the Seabury Center Dance Studio on the Berea
College campus. Dances starts at 7:30. Monthly pot luck dinners and dances start on Saturday, September
11th in the Activities Room of the Alumni Building on campus. Dinner is at 6:30, Dancing starts between

Ballroom Dancing for Adults
The Berea Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce Ballroom Dancing for Adults! Beginning October 8,
2010, this six week class will introduce beginning dance partners ages 21 and above to sampling of all that ballroom
dancing includes. Patrons will learn the steps of the Cha-cha, Rumba, East Coast Swing, Foxtrot/Waltz and Merengue. The
class will be held every Friday from 7-8pm through November 12th at the Russel Acton Folk Center in Berea. Call the Berea

“Fusing the Grid”
The Berea Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce that Sue Benner, internationally
renowned quilt instructor from Dallas, Texas, will be teaching a 2-day extended workshop, titled “Fusing the
Grid”. Students will create a series of several art quilts based on the grid using fusible web.  This is a great
workshop for developing new directions in color, working in a series, and experimenting with silk and other
fibers.  The workshop will be held October 22-23, 2010 at the Broadway Building in Berea. Call 986-9402
